TIPS AND ADVICE:

I wanted this chapter to be as thorough as possible, in order for my site not to be a commercial link to sell my puppies. That way dog lovers, customers or not, can find helpful advice.

• Arrival Day

If possible come with someone, this way he/she can care for the puppy during the trip when you drive. Plan to have a towel, a bowl, water, a little leash and a collar. During the trip, stop every two hours for pee/potty breaks; give him water but no food.

It is better if your puppy arrives during the day. He will have time to discover his environment before going to bed. If you can take some time off to facilitate your puppy's arrival its best. When leaving the litter the puppy is under tremendous stress, so be patient, don't introduce him right away to friends, neighbors and family...

For a good start your puppy needs to be stress-free and in a quiet environment : avoid vacuuming, hair dryers, land mowers, children screaming while wanting to hug the puppy, no bath even if he was a little sick during the trip. Give him some water but respect the normal feeding times, even if he missed a feeding time, don't be surprised if he doesn't eat well the first days.

For his first night, choose a quiet place which he will have discovered during the day, put his little things (bed, toys). You can leave a small light on. The first night (and even the next) can be difficult. Don't be too close to your dog at nightfall, let him discover the room where he will sleep, go to bed without saying goodbye, close the door without talking to him, as if it was completely natural. Even if it is hard to hear him cry, don't give in by taking him with you, otherwise you'll have to do that every night...
