TIPS AND ADVICE:

I wanted this chapter to be as thorough as possible, in order for my site not to be a commercial link to sell my puppies. That way dog lovers, customers or not, can find helpful advice.

• Choosing a breeder

Where should you buy your puppy?

Breeding Bernese Mountain Dogs is not an easy thing. I strongly recommend that you choose a respectable, professional breeder or a real passionate amateur, never a unscrupulous seller, or a person wanting to make money by having puppies and selling them.
Those people might sell you the puppy cheaper (and that sometimes is not even the case) but quality has a cost and breed selection and health guarantees are expensive.

Ask the right questions?
    - Are you a professional breeder?
    - If you are an amateur, do you have an affix?
    - Are you a member of the Breed Club (AKC)?
    - Have you signed the Quality Chart?

This last question will ensure that the Breed Club Certification (AFBS) is respected. Know that all breeders who signed this Certification are LOF, health controlled and dysplasia-free, that all life conditions for the dogs are guaranteed and verified (you can read the details of this certification in my web link to the AFBS).
The first contact should be by phone. Don't be surprised if the breeder asks you some personal question, it is not by curiosity, but rather to know if you can welcome a puppy in good conditions. He might direct you towards a male or a female and a companion or show dog.
It's hard to be a good breeder :
  • Our daily life is caring for, grooming, feeding, birthing, nursing, showing our dogs and more...
  • We must also devote some time to administrative tasks : accounting, filing...
  • Marketing to best improve the quality of our work.

So please, make an appointment. It will be real difficult to welcome you at certain hours, dog care will always be a priority in my life, I must respect their life pace.
